Egan Bernal gana la etapa 16 del Giro de Italia y aumenta su ventaja en la general
Egan Bernal ganó la 16ª etapa del Giro de Italia en solitario en la meta de Cortina. El colombiano se quitó la capa de lluvia justo antes de la llegada, mostrando su Maglia Rosa, símbolo de la supremacía en la clasificación general que controla aún más firmemente el portador del Team Ineos Grenadiers después de esta etapa.
Bernal había atacado a falta de 22 km de la meta, cruzando primero el paso de Giau, la nueva Cima Coppi del Giro tras el acortamiento de la etapa decidido esta mañana y que había visto la supresión del paso de Fedaia y del paso de Pordoi (antigua Cima Coppi).
Tras la salida, 24 corredores se lanzaron al ataque, entre ellos Vincenzo Nibali, Joao Almeida y Davide Formolo, que fueron atrapados uno a uno en las rampas del Passo Giau.
Romain Bardet y Damiano Caruso completaron el podio del día. El italiano del equipo Bahrain Victorious sube al segundo puesto de la clasificación con un retraso de 2’24” respecto al colombiano, seguido de Hugh Carthy a 3’40”, Aleksandr Vlasov a 4’18” y Simon Yates a 4’20”.
Mañana el Giro de Italia celebra el segundo y último día de descanso.
